Schull and Fitbones presents Boxercise

The fitness concept is based upon a series of exercises used by boxers to keep fit without actually hitting anybody (or being hit!). Classes may take a number of formats, which may find participants shadow boxing, punching focus pads and punch bags, along with a number of circuit training exercises. Boxercise combines cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility with a lot of laughter and fun. An hour long class may include shuttle runs, a few lunges, working the triceps, skipping, doing a few sit ups and a range of other exercises while simultaneously throwing a variety of punches. Although boxing focuses on upper body conditioning, working the arms, abs, chest and shoulders, boxercise classes are designed to ensure a fantastic all body workout. It is a real calorie burning session using all the different muscle groups that really makes you notice and feel the difference after a few weeks.

As with all modern group exercises classes music is a component of the session but without the need for aerobic style coordination to frighten the men away. It suits all fitness levels, ages and sexes from teenagers to the new middle age of sixty plus. Individuals can set their own level of intensity, choosing how hard they punch or push themselves. Aiming a punch at the central spot on a focus pad is a fantastic stress buster and enables you to lose yourself in the adrenaline rush of the class. Yet there is a real buzz and social element to punching your way to fitness the boxercise way.

Boxercise is also a great tool used in personal training sessions towards toning and weight loss. It adds variety to team fitness training and circuit training classes, and is great for sports requiring upper body strength such as rugby, football, rowing and sailing. Children’s groups also benefit from the boxing movements and is a fun activity for after school groups or for incorporating into school PE sessions.

West Cork Boxercise classes take place in Skibbereen, Bantry and Schull, with a fully qualified instructor, giving you the chance to punch your way to total fitness. Classes can also be arranged elsewhere on request or for incorporating into team training, school PE or corporate fitness sessions. Boxercise is for everybody and even those who don’t like exercise keep coming back for more!
